THEATRE FIRE MARSHAL: TRAIN THE TRAINER

What will they learn?

This course will provide candidates with both the theoretical and practical aspects of the Theatre Fire Marshal role.

This training will equip suitably experienced and skilled individuals with comprehensive knowledge allowing them to design their own site-specific training.

Candidates attending the session will be provided with access to our theatre-specific Fire Awareness eLearning course to build foundational subject knowledge before attending the course.

Course materials, including a pre-written presentation, training notes and access to subject resources are provided for candidates to assist them with in-house delivery.

Practical fire-fighting (using live fire simulators and extinguishers) can be included in this course if the venue is suitable and there are adequate parking arrangements.

Practical training is used to enhance candidates' knowledge and understanding. It does not enable candidates to deliver live fire training.

Megamover Train the Trainer

This Megamover – Train the Trainer course is intended for individuals who wish to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their own ‘in–house’ Megamover training.

Who should attend?

Persons who are required to instruct others at their venue on the correct techniques for the safe use and operation of a Megamover.

What will they learn?

This course will provide candidates with hands-on experience of an emergency evacuation, executing rescues that entail moving casualties in difficult and confined spaces.

This training will equip suitably experienced and skilled individuals with comprehensive knowledge allowing them to design their own site-specific training.

Candidates undertaking the course will be taught:

Training is delivered at your venue, and all course instructors are Emergency Service personnel with firsthand experience in executing rescues that entail moving casualties in difficult and confined spaces.

This course is suitable for any staff who might be called upon to assist with an emergency evacuation.

The course is suitable for anyone who has Line Manager responsibility, who is responsible for staff wellbeing or wants to increase their awareness of mental health and wellbeing and how they can influence it in the workplace.

AED Training for Theatres

This course is based on the basic AED training course with additional aspects to suit the theatre environment, such as utilising the equipment within the auditorium or on stage. This training can lead to prompt action for the casualty, raising the chance of survival from 5% to 80%. This can also be run as a combined course with Basic Life Support for a duration of 4 hours. Who should attend?

All employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations to make First Aid provisions within their workplace, and this course will help in meeting this duty. First aid courses of this type are suitable for anyone who is nominated to use an AED in an emergency situation.

What will they learn?

The successful candidate will learn how to recognise a cardiac arrest, how to administer basic CPR (Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation), and the use of a portable Automated External Defibrillator.

The course also covers the difficulties presented within a theatre environment, including a systematic approach to patient evacuation from seating in the auditorium, or from the stage.

This course is suitable for anyone who has previously completed a Work at Height & Rescue from Height course within the last 3 years (proof of qualification required). Has the requirement for On Rope, Work Positioning Techniques to work at height within a Theatre or Production environment. Candidates are required to bring their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Fall Protection Equipment (FPE) to the training session.

CDM in the Entertainment Industry Virtual course available

All theatres and producers have a legal duty to comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.  

This course is designed specifically for the Theatre and Production industry, aimed at any person involved in construction work who requires a clear understanding of their duties under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007, amended by the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.

The HSE introduced the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM2007) with the main aim of making health and safety an integral part of the design, construction and management of projects.

Those wanting to get a better understanding of the CDM requirements and how these can be practically implemented in the theatre environment. This could include theatre owners, managers, producers, production managers and designers.

Mental Health Awareness

Accredited by The First Aid Industry Body (FAIB), this half day course is an introductory 4-hour session to raise awareness of mental health within the workplace. This is the equivalent to a Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to increase their awareness in Mental Health. 

What will they learn?

It will provide learners with the basic knowledge and necessary skills to recognise the signs of a range of mental health issues. It will give delegates the confidence on how to start a conversation and when to advise a person to seek professional help. 

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by a healthcare professional.

Pre-Requisites

  • The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over.
  • It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

    Our evacuation chair course is designed to ensure that candidates know what is expected of them and how to practically use the chair in a real-life situation.

    We ask that you send your evacuation chair’s make and model to our office seven working days before the course start date. That way we can ensure that we are delivering training relevant to the operation of your evacuation chair.

    Who should attend?

    Anyone who might be in a situation to handle evacuating those who need help escaping unsafe premises.

    What will they learn?

    The training will cover the basics of evacuation chair use, including set-up, checks, functions, safety features, use and stowing. The course will also be followed by an important practical element that makes use of the chairs in your venue to ensure that all candidates are familiar with their operation.

    All employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations to make First Aid provisions within their workplace, and this course will ensure you meet that duty.

    Who should attend?

    First aid courses of this type are suitable for anyone who has been nominated as a First Aider in low risk environments or to assist the full First Aider at work.

    What will they learn?

    This course will give the successful candidate the knowledge and skills to be qualified as an Emergency First Aider at Work in compliance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations. Staff will learn basic first aid and become confident in the treatment of casualties and their ability to act in any first aid emergency/situation within this complex environment.

    With a similar structure as our standard Emergency First Aid at Work course, but tailored to focus on the types of injuries occurring within the dance sector. This course will cover basic first aid when dealing with a wide range of dance injuries with a focus on early intervention to promote speedy recovery.

    All employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations to make First Aid provisions within their workplace, and this course will help in meeting this duty.

    For Businesses For Theatres Health and Safety

    Ladder Inspection

    Whilst ladder users should be trained in the pre-use checks, ladders should also be given a detailed inspection (usually 6 monthly or annually in the theatres) by a competent person. The HSE also state that this “detailed inspection should be recorded” (INDG 402). Training staff to do this in-house offers the venue efficiency savings in both time and money whilst allowing you the flexibility to carry out inspections as and when you see fit.

    All employers have a legal duty under the Work at Height Regulations to ensure staff are suitably trained and that work equipment is inspected at suitable intervals.

    Who should attend?

    It is ideal for candidates who are required to carry out a detailed periodic inspection of ladders (including vertical fixed ladders).

    This course gives candidates an overview of safe lifting techniques and an insight into the hazards and risks involved in manual handling. What makes this course unique is the emphasis placed on industry issues where safe lifting techniques are not always practical, the tutor will discuss issues such as loading galleries, ice cream sales, team lifting on stage and in low light levels.

    All employers have a legal duty under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations to ensure employees are suitably trained.

    It is ideal for candidates who need to gain an insight into safer manual handling techniques.

    What will they learn?

    Who should attend?

    First aid courses of this type are suitable for anyone who has been nominated as a chaperone to work with children under 16 years of age.

    This course is suitable for anyone who is nominated to carry out rescue from height. Candidates are required to bring their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Fall Protection Equipment (FPE) to the training session.

    What will they learn?

    This course will give the successful candidate the knowledge and skills to work confidently with your venues rescue kit and carry out a range of rescues in your premises.

    Theatre Fire Officer

    Where this is applicable it is vital that this person has adequate training to undertake these duties as they will often be the first line of defence should there be an incident. This person is often called upon to oversee flame effects on stage and manage elements of an evacuation. This is a very practical course where candidates will learn to use fire extinguishing media in a variety of ways.

    Who should attend?

    Anyone appointed as a Theatre Fire Officer.

    What will they learn?

    Candidates will undertake practical exercises in the use of extinguishers and fire blankets in a live fire situation, as well as gaining knowledge on pre and post-performance checks, how to check fire doors, lock up and emergency procedures.

    Tallescope Rescue

    This course will be tailored to the venue and show staff how to carry out a rescue from a Tallescope basket in a safe manner. Prior to attending this course the venue must have (or be intending to purchase) the “RB Tallescope Rescue Pack” (rescue pouch, Tallescope reach pole and accessories). It is also recommended that the venue has access to a standard rescue from height pack (however the tutor can bring their own). This is often run with the “Safe use of Tallescope Course” as combined training.

    Who should attend?

    Anyone who could be responsible for taking part in the rescue of a person from a Tallescope. It is recommended (but not essential) that candidates have also received basic rescue from height training prior to attending this course. Candidates are required to bring their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Fall Protection Equipment (FPE) to the training session.

    What will they learn?

    Candidates will be given practical training on the Tallescope rescue equipment and its deployment in their specific venue.

    Tallescope (Safe use of Tallescopes)

    The ABTT and HSE have produced safe working methods for the use of Tallescopes. 

    2014 Code of practice for use of Tallescopes for working at height in theatres

    These require:

    • Four outriggers
    • Four push-pull posts
    • Four non-lift castors

    It is also explicitly stated to be essential that personnel using Tallescopes have completed Tallescope Training.

    Our Safe Use of Tallescopes training course is a practical course to bring candidates up to speed with ABTT guidelines and teach safe procedure when using a Tallescope.

    We often run this alongside our Tallescope Rescue training course as combined training.

    Who should attend?

    The course is designed for anyone required to use Tallescopes in the theatre and production environment. Candidates are required to bring their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Fall Protection Equipment (FPE) to the training session.

    What will they learn?

    Candidates will develop the skills and knowledge to assemble, perform pre-use checks on, and use Tallescopes. They will gain an understanding of relevant legislation.

    Please Note: We cannot teach candidates to safely move an occupied Tallescope if your venue has a raked stage.

    Do you have Work at Height & Rescue from Height Competent Staff?

    RB Health and Safety Solutions Ltd recommend refreshing your Work at Height & Rescue Trained staff at a minimum of every 6 months, Its a good idea to train on your venue specific Work at Height Rescue Plans in the event of a real emergency, RB Health and Safety can supply a Competent Work at Height Training Instructor to supervise these sessions

    Why do Refresher Training?

    It will give your staff the opportunity to practice Rescue Training in a Team environment, to simulate what may happen in a real emergency event, this is overseen by a Competent Work at Height Training Instructor, who can guide and refresh the skills needed to achieve a Safe Work at Height Rescue in a timely fashion, these sessions are carried out using Live Casualties (one of the crew) this gives the Rescuer the unique perspective of being a casualty but in a controlled manner, this is to help you comply with Regulation 4 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005
