Mental Health and Well-being in the Workplace

Accredited by the The First Aid Industry Body, this 2-day course has been developed to provide learners with the tools and knowledge on how to Supervise First Aid for Mental Health within the workplace. This is equivalent to a Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health.

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for anyone who has Line Manager responsibility, who is responsible for staff wellbeing or wants to increase their awareness of mental health and wellbeing and how they can influence it in the workplace.

Delegates will gain the confidence on how to start a supportive conversation, learn about first aid action plans for mental health and how to implement them, and how to encourage a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

Learners will know how to identify when a person requires help and suggest where they may seek professional help. The diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions can only be carried out by a healthcare professional.

Pre-Requisites

  • The qualification is available to learners aged 16 or over.
  • It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

Course content

Course content:

  • Recognising possible signs and symptoms of a person that has mental ill-health or is suffering with stress
  • Understanding Mental health and its stigma
  • Using a Mental Health Plan to help those in crisis or need
  • Finding external professional help and guidance
  • The law in relation to mental health and the workplace
  • Best practice when helping someone to stay in work or return to work
  • Understanding of more complex mental health conditions
  • Promoting well-being in the workplace and how you can become an Ambassador for Mental Health and Well-being
  • Information on self-care to aid prevention to help others and yourself

Certificate

On completion of the course, delegates will receive a Mental Health and Well-being in the Workplace certificate and is valid for three years from the date of achievement. 

It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.
