Making Noise Risk Assessments

Is your organisation compliant with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations (2005)?

For theatres, concert halls, and other entertainment productions, how close you are to breaching the regulations can vary from show to show, performer to performer. However, there are a number of steps that can be taken to make your venue a safer place to work across performances and acts if needed.

RB Health & Safety Solutions has recently added Noise Risk Assessments for Theatre and Production to our services. Our assessor will attend your venue equipped with a Noise Dosimeter which will be used to sample decibel levels around the venue, establishing whether the legal noise limits are being exceeded.

When and where this happens, our assessor will look at the situation and produce clear, targeted recommendations concerning the layout of orchestra pits and other ways to engineer reduced decibel counts, hearing protection programmes and ongoing health surveillance.

One of the sources for our recommendations, along with our assessors’ experience and expertise, will be “Sound Advice”, the guide on the subject produced by the Health & Safety Executive. Sound Advice provides specialised controls of use to the music and entertainment industry, and can be found here.

If you’d like to discuss noise risk issues that have arisen at your venue or to arrange an assessment of your venue, you can reach us by emailing admin@ribhealthandsafety.co.uk or calling 0845 257 1489.
