Common Causes of Fire and Human Behaviour
The most common causes of fire are broadly similar whether your at home or at work. UK Fire Stats for 2001 show that the most likely place to have a fire is: (in reverse order)
- 3rd place, Bedrooms & Dormitories
- 2nd place, Lounges & Rest Rooms
- 1st place, its kitchens / dining room & food preparation areas
So what is the biggest cause of fire in the workplace.
- 'Arson'
Human Behaviour during a fire
What effect does fire have on human behaviour?
How do humans react when they are confronted by a fire in a waste paper basket?
Is their reaction different to finding a fire in seat at a nightclub on a Saturday night, or passing through an underground station on the way home, or when they are shopping in a supermarket, or beneath their feet in a football stadium, or when they are in a queue waiting to buy sweets at the local newsagents?
All these are real life examples which may sound familiar to you, RB Health and Safety Solutions offer training in Fire Safety in which we go deep into the subjects of human behaviour using all the examples mentioned, showing what people do in reality . Douglas Adams summed up this behaviour rather well in the Hitch Hikers Guide trilogy when he describes the solution to tricky, difficult or out of the ordinary events as to erect a quick and simple somebody elses problem field around it.
